Monster was the best R.E.M. album released in the 1990s. In fact, it’s their best out of all their albums after they left IRS Records. Change my mind.

I bought every REM album up to Monster, with that one I started to lose interest. Liked their folksy early harmonies best “Life’s Rich Pageant” “Reckoning” Don’t know when they left IRS, but will take the more mainstream and p oppy “Automatic for the People” (1st) and “Out of Time" over "Monster".

I wasn’t aware that “the best REM album” was something anyone ever thought about.

Yeah, I like Monster a lot but it isn’t better than Out of Time or Automatic For the People.

Monster is great, but Out of Time is practically unassailable.
